The CAASPP program is the California State standardized testing program for all public schools. The program consists of criterion-referenced tests, including the Smarter Balanced standardized tests in ELA and Math for grades 3-11, the California Science Test (CAST), the California Alternate Assessment (CAA), and the California Spanish Assessment (CSA).
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments
The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment tests measure the achievement of California content standards in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics in grades 3-8 and grade 11. Click here to go to the Smarter Balanced Test Results page.
California Science Test (CAST)
The CAST is administered in the spring for grades 5, 8, and once in high school.
California Alternate Assessment (CAA)
The CAA measures the achievement of California content standards in English-language arts, mathematics, and science. This alternate assessment is for students who have an individualized education program stating such.
California Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
The PFT is given to all students in grades 5, 7, and 9. The test consists of three components:
1) aerobic capacity
2) body composition
3) muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility
English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)
The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. State and federal law require that local educational agencies administer a state test of ELP to eligible students in kindergarten (or year one of a two-year kindergarten program, sometimes referred to as “transitional kindergarten”) through grade twelve. The ELPAC is aligned with California’s 2012 English Language Development Standards and consists of two separate ELP assessments:
1) Initial Assessment (IA)—an initial identification of students as English learners (ELs)
2) Summative Assessment (SA)—an annual summative assessment to measure an English learner's progress in learning English and to identify the student's ELP level
DataQuest is an online data reporting system developed and maintained by the California Department of Education. DataQuest provides data from many different sources in a single location; making it easier for parents, teachers, administrators, and other interested individuals to get demographic and performance information about particular schools and school districts, or California education in general.
The California School Dashboard provides parents and educators with meaningful information on school and district progress so they can participate in decisions to improve student learning.
